The Ichimatsu pen
The checkered pattern is named after Sanogawa Ichimatsu, celebrated kabuki actor who wore striking costumes adorned with this pattern. The repeating pattern constructed of squares arranged alternately is known to represent prosperity of descendants and expansion of business.
