Tom's Studio One-Dip-Nib – Stainless Steel Nib Only
The One-Dip-Nib is a highly versatile stainless steel dip nib, developed over more than a year to create a precise and satisfying tool for illustration and calligraphy. An adjustable thumb screw allows you to control line width easily, moving from ultra-fine lines to broader strokes. By changing the angle of the nib to the page, you can achieve clean, controlled variation ideal for detailed work. A cleverly engineered internal reservoir uses capillary action to store a generous amount of ink within the nib itself, allowing extended drawing time — often an entire A5 page — from a single dip.
Stainless steel is a harder, more durable material than brass, enabling finer lines and excellent point retention over long-term use. This makes it especially well suited for precision-focused illustration and controlled calligraphy styles. The nib is compatible with straight calligraphy pen holders only and slots directly into the top of the pen. It is not suitable for oblique holders.
To use, dip the nib into ink until just before the ink reaches the thumb screw, then hold it in the ink for around 10–15 seconds to allow the reservoir to fully saturate. The nib is hand-finished to balance smoothness with a subtle “bite” on the page. If a smoother feel is preferred, it can be lightly sanded using the included sandpaper.
Compatible with most inks, including pigment, shimmer, iridescent, watercolour, acrylic, and Indian ink. Easy to clean with no risk of clogging.
