Unsodo Publications, a renowned art publishing company based in Kyoto, brings us a visually stunning collection with their craft design books, Bijutsukai and Shin Bijutsukai, originally published during the Meiji period (1868-1912). These books feature intricate designs from gifted Japanese painters and designers, with a focus on multicolored woodblock print designs. One such design, created by selecting a craft design from Bijutsukai, showcases pastel-colored geometric motifs layered with striking red lines that resemble delicate threads. Upon closer inspection, one may also notice the subtle presence of leaves and folded paper, reminiscent of traditional Japanese aristocrats who wrote Waka poems on paper mulberry leaves for the Tanabata star festival. This unique art style became known as "Kaji-no-ha ornaments", symbolizing Tanabata decorations. The design captures the essence of this historical tradition, while also providing a glimpse into the future through its intricate shapes and beautiful colors.

The book uses thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper. This paper that underwent an overhaul with the 2024 edition techo is more resistant to bleed through, lighter despite being the same thickness, and has a smoother surface by adjusting the fibers of the paper.
