Midori and MD Paper

Midori is a stationery brand of Designphil Inc. in Tokyo. In the 1960s the company developed its own diary paper and named it MD Paper, short for Midori Diary. From 2008 MD Paper grew into a full range under the Midori name, led by the MD Notebook, and in January 2026 Designphil gave that range a brand of its own, MD PRODUCT. Both names come from the same maker.

MD Notebook sizes

Each standard MD Notebook has 176 pages of 80 gsm MD Paper, is thread-sewn so it opens 180 degrees flat, and comes wrapped in glassine. Sizes are width by height, from Designphil's official specifications:

  • A7: 74 x 105 mm, miniature book size
  • A6: 105 x 148 mm, pocket edition size
  • B6 slim: 105 x 175 mm, paperback size, A6 width with extra height
  • A5: 148 x 210 mm, hardback size
  • A4 variant: 210 x 275 mm, magazine size, blank only

A7, A6, B6 slim and A5 come blank, lined (7 mm), grid (5 mm) or dot grid (5 mm). MD Notebook Cotton and MD Notebook Thick come in A5 and a 146 x 146 mm A5 square, blank.

A6 or A5?

An A5 page has twice the area of an A6 page. Choose A6 if the notebook travels in a bag or coat pocket every day, and A5 if it mostly stays on a desk or you like room to sketch and plan a week across one spread. B6 slim keeps the A6 width but adds 27 mm of height, so it still holds comfortably in one hand.

Midori diaries and accessories

You will also find Midori diaries here, including hibino, a two-pages-per-day diary (115 x 152 mm, 768 pages) printed on Tomoe River S paper rather than MD Paper, along with clear and paper covers for MD Notebooks, the Notebook's HARAMAKI storage pouch, and Midori accessories such as Chiratto index clips, D-Clips and multi rulers.
