Whale Island
One of the earliest stories about whales is that of sailors mistaking sleeping whales for islands. They would tether their ships to the “island”, disembark and set up camp. The whale would then plunge to the depths of the ocean sinking all the ships and drowning the sailors.
Behind the Design
Daniel Mackie is the artist behind The DM Collection. This series of watercolours is very heavily influenced by the Japanese print makers of the Ukiyo-e period, which flourished between 1670 and 1870. Like those great masters Daniel seeks to create a harmonious accord between a highly stylised form and the flowing lines of nature, creating decorative designs that lift the spirit and warm the heart.
